Qq is for Questions

How many states have you colored
on your U.S.A. map in your doodle book?
Would you like to color a few more?

Can you find and color the state where
Mount Rushmore is located?

Can you find and color the state where Grandpa
saw the Liberty Bell?

Can you find and color the state where Grandpa
and I rode in a "jammer" through Glacier
National Park last summer?

Can you find and locate two different states where
we have seen tulip fields and a Tulip Festival?

Can you find and color the state where we went
to a Hot Air Balloon Festival?

Do you need a few clues to help you in guessing
which states to color?

Grandpa and I are on a quest to visit all 50 states in the U.S.A.
Can you guess how many we have been to so far?
The correct guess just might be worth a bonus treat from
the Suitcase of Summer Surprises!

Have a happy day in the U.S.A!

Find a Christmas Q

In a book by Mary Engelbreit
Anne Estelle has written a super long wish list and
calls herself the _ _ _ _ _ of Christmas!

But if you must know, my wish list
(aka my "to-do-before-Christmas" list)
is way longer than Anne Estelle's list.

Seasons Readings from the
real _ _ _ _ _ of Christmas!

Reading Q's

Snuggle under a quilt and read a book about quilts . . .
or quack . . . or queens. You could even read "Olivia and
the Fairy Princesses" by Ian Falconer. Olivia, the cute spunky
pig I love, believes there are too many ruffly, sparkly
princesses around these days and she does not want
to be like everyone else. So what will she be?
Read this book and see. (hint: it begins with a "Q")

I love the illustrations and story in
"The Quiet Book" by Deborah Underwood.
But this summer I finally read the funny story
of "Ramona Quimby, Age 8" by Beverly Cleary.

If you're still wondering what to read for the letter "Q",
try reading a book with a "question" title:
"How Much is a Million?"  by David M. Schwartz
"What Do People Do All Day?"  by Richard Scarry
"Where's My Teddy?"  by Jez Alborough

Any more questions?

Disneyland Qq

Why are there so many beautiful, nice princesses
 in Disney movies, but only  mean q _ _ _ _ _?

 Like the evil q _ _ _ _  in Snow White and the q _ _ _ _
in Alice in Wonderland who says, "Off with her head!"

Merry 6 days before Christmas

I spy with my little eye
an itty bitty bit of Christmas
that starts with the letter Q
Q_ _ _ _

Hint: Sometimes you need a break from all
the holiday hustle and bustle and could
use a little peace and q _ _ _ _.
You may find some in a book like this one.

74. Picture of the day

Qq is for quay
What on earth is a quay?
( a wharf or reinforced bank where ships are loaded or unloaded)
Well, one of these pictures shows a quay.
Guess which one!
(Picture #1 is a metal fish sculpture.
#2 is the coffin of the Black Knight inside the
Canterbury Cathedral--his feet are resting on a rat!)
#3 is a quay in Falmouth, Cornwall, England#4 is a uniQue banner.

Qq is for Quilts

Q is for quilts to cover us in bed

Quilts are cozy for nighttime sleeping in our beds. Quilts are also cozy for slumber parties underneath the Christmas tree while you watch Christmas movies. My favorite Christmas movie is "Miracle on 34th Street". What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Merry 8 "sleeps" before Christmas!

Quirky Q-tipped "Q"

Look for your paper plate with an upper-case Q on the front of it. Find your little baggie with a lower-case q inside as well as a lot of Q-tips. Cover your paper plate Q with Q-tips. You may need to cut a few Q-tips into smaller sizes to fit more onto the paper plate Q. Now for a quick treat idea! Well, first a question: do you have either a tube of crescent rolls or biscuits in your refrigerator? If you have some cresent rolls, you can make quick turnovers. Separate the dough into triangle pieces and fill each triangle with jelly or apple slices or cinnamon sugar. Roll up and bake as you would crescent rolls. If you have some biscuits, you can make quick doughnuts. Cut a hole in the middle of each biscuit dough circle. Fry in one inch of oil for one minute or so. Shake in a bag of brown or powdered sugar. Then nibble on them while you read "Little Quack" by Lauren Thompson.

Happy quacky day!

Qq is for Quiet

SHHHH! You know that means stop making noise and be quiet! Some things that are quiet are snowing falling from the sky . . . the sun rising in the morning . . . and the stars shining at night. Some times to be quiet are when you are visiting the library . . . or when you are listening at primary or preschool . . . or when you are hiding in a game of hide-and-seek. It's also nice to be quiet when you are trying to fall asleep at bedtime or when your Mommy is talking on the telephone. I know that little boys would much rather be making a lot of noise, but have you ever played the quiet game? Maybe you could try being quiet for a half hour by taking a short nap or looking at books or playing quietly in your room today or everyday. Your Mommy might like a peace of quiet and that might be worth a ticket every time you try it. Or how about ten tickets for one whole day of no TV or video games! You would have lots of time to look at quiet books like these:

Five Minutes' Peace by Jilly Murphy

The Quiet Book by Deborah Underwood

This Quiet Lady by Charlotte Zolotow

Sounds and Shhhhh by Carol Lynn Pearson

Happy Quiet Time!

Qq is for Queen

Once upon a time there was a girl who loved Christmas so much she made very long lists so she wouldn't miss any of the wonderful things that happen around Christmastime. Each day as she counted down the days until Christmas, she would think of more things to add to the list. The little girl is Ann Estelle in the "Queen of Christmas" by Mary Engelbreit, but she sounds a little bit like someone else you might know.

Merry Wednesday!

Qq is for Quiz

Since summer has nearly slipped away, I decided to quit the picture book posts. I may not have quite finished the alphabet, but I will still give you a fabulous prize for any or all puzzle pieces you glued in your Alpha-Books this summer.

Now . . . on to our regularly scheduled alphabet adventures.

Qq is for this quick quiz:

Question number one:

Who do you think should win a fabulous prize

in the "Ee is for Elephant" coloring contest?

Zach who is quite confident about this colorful creation . . .

Brody who decided to color a regular elephant . . .

Jack who looked at every page of his "Elmer" book
for inspiration in coloring his elephant . . .

. . . or Eddy who has been much too busy doing puzzles

and loving little LuLu

to care as much about coloring an elephant!

Question number two:

What kind of fabulous prize would be worth winning?

Something big . . . or something small?

Something cute . . . or something yummy?

A new book . . .or a new box of crayons?

Some quarters . . . or something else?

Please help me solve my quandary.

Happy Quiz Day!
