Ll is for Lists and L _ _ _

Take a lesson from Jack and write some lists this summer.
This is an idea list of something you could type . . .
or write . . . or draw in your own doodle book!

Six things about someone
who is six years old today!

1. His favorite foods are blueberries, watermelon,
yogurt and noodles.

2. He loves swimming and wants to play in the water all day.
He does not, however, love swimming lessons.

3. He is still obsessed with all things Skylanders.
If he wanted,  he could probably fill his entire doodle book
with the names and/or pictures of all the Skylander figures he owns.

4. He loves watching YouTube,  especially videos about Skylanders.

5.This summer he has decided he loves coloring and prints
pages and pages of pictures to color every day.
And his favorite thing to color--Skylanders!

6. He wakes up every morning and asks "is today a day off"?
He loves lazy days at home especially if his brothers are home, too.

Happy list making today and . . .

Happy Birthday Luke!

Reading L's

Look at all the books you could read for the letter "L":
"The Library" by Sarah Stewart
"Library Lion" by Michelle Knudsen
"Lyle the Crocodile" by Bernard Waber
"Lady Lollipop" a pig story by Dick King-Smith
"The Lady with the Alligator Purse"
"Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes
"The Little Red Hen (makes a pizza)"
"Little Red Writing" by Joan Holub
(the characters in this book are pencils! . . . so this book
plus a few others on this list could also be "P" books)

For beginning readers there are LEGO Ninjago books.
For more advanced readers there is:
"The Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson and the Olympians"
by Rick Riordan
"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C. S. Lewis
and "The Little House on the Prairie" series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I quite liked this book:
"Lulu and the Brontosaurus"--
a short chapter book with lots of cute pictures
about a sassy, spoiled little girl named Lulu
who is determined to get a brontosaurus for her birthday!

Have a lovely day of reading!

Merry 10 days before Christmas

I spy with my little eye
 itty bitty bits of Christmas
that all begin with the letter L

These are only 4 of the 12 special ornaments on this

Ll is for Love

February is the month of love

I know that Valentine's Day is long over, but I learned from a very cute library book called "Love, Ruby Valentine" that it is never too late to say "I love you".
Here is a list of eleven things I love:

I love Zach more than all the shrimp in the sea.
I love Brody more than all the pajamas in his pajama collection.
I love Luke more than all the air in the great outdoors.

I love Eddy more than all books in his
Mommy's picture book collection.
I love Lindsay Lu more than all the spots on a million ladybugs.

I love Coltin more than all the puzzle pieces in Grandpa's puzzle collection.

I love Wade more than all the cups and cars he has "organized".
I love Owen more than all the snowflakes in winter.

I love Jack more than all the legoes in his collection.
I love Ryan more than all the super powers
in all the super heroes put together.
I love Nash more than all the stars in the sky.

Now it's your turn to write a list of eleven things you love in your journal or Chapter Ll of your Alpha-Book. They don't all have to be people, either. Maybe you also love brownies or books or holidays like I do. Show or tell me some of the things you love and I would love to give you a lovely prize!

Happy love list making!

Ll is for Lights

L is for lights on a big Christmas tree

I love the lights at Christmas time--both inside and outside. Be sure to take at least one light ride this month and/or go see the lights at Temple Square. In the meantime, you can create some "lights" with your thumbprints and some paint!

Merry delightful day!

Lovely lacey "L"

Let's look for a paper plate with a large (upper-case) L on the front of it. Let's also look for a little baggie filled with lace and a little (lower-case) l. After covering the large letter L with lace, would you like to look at a ladybug book?""The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle is a story about a ladybug and all the creatures she encounters at different times throughout the day while she looks for a little something to eat. After (or for) lunch, you might like to create and eat your own little ladybug fruit snack!

Have a lovely little day!

Love, Grandma

P.S. Don't forget to try your luck at the little guessing game.

L is for Luke and Lindsay Lu

Let's take a little break from Alpha-bugging to play a little guessing game. This will be more challenging than past "Guess who?" games because there two "Guess who L is for" kids. Plus you have to guess which clues go with which kid. So turn on your little brains!

1. Who is a little "L"?
2. Who is a larger "L"?
3. Who has a birthday this summer?

4. Who just turned two years old?

5. Who will soon turn one year old?

6. Who has two big brothers?

7. Who has one big brother?

8. Who loves to eat?

9. Who loves to wear ruffles and polka-dots and cute pink clothes?

10. Who loves to wear nothing at all?

11. Who crawls all over, climbs a little bit, and is learning to stand?

12. Who runs everywhere especially away from Mommy?

Let me know which clues you think go with which "L" and who those "L's are, and what you love about each "L". I'm sure I can come up with a fabulous little prize or extra tickets for the winners!

Ll is for Lullaby

A lullaby is a soft song mothers sing to soothe their babies and help them fall asleep. The primary "Children's Songbook" has a sweet Christmas lullaby called "Oh, Hush Thee, My Baby" (which I am sure your mommies would be happy to play and sing to you). It goes:

Oh, hush thee, my baby; a story I'll tell,
How little Lord Jesus on earth came to dwell;
How in a far country, 'way over the sea,
Was born a wee baby, my dear one, like thee."

It doesn't seem like a list of Christmas picture books would be complete without including a couple books about baby Jesus, whose birthday we celebrate at Christmastime.

Try "B is for Bethlehem" . . .
"The Manger Where Jesus Lay" . . .
or the boardbook, "One Baby Jesus"
for a bedtime story tonight. And don't forget the lullaby afterwards.

Merry little two weeks before Christmas Eve!

Ll is for Letters

I love to look in the mailbox and find an envelope with my name on it. Lots of times it's just junk mail, but once upon a time I got letters from my Mom and Dad or little sisters while I was in college. And when I was even younger, I got letters from my Grandma Beal sometimes! Nowadays you probably don't get letters in the mail too often. So I decided to send you one! It may not be as exciting as the letters I liked to get. It may not be as cute as a storybook filled with little letters like this book. But the letter I'm sending you does have a couple end-of-summer projects inside. So don't forget to look in you mailbox in a day or two!

Have a Llllovely little day!

Ll is for Library

This is the place where I go to work a few times each week.
It may look rather weird and old from the outside, but inside it is filled with amazing things!
Alphabet books . . . Board books . . .
Cookbooks and Computers . . .
CDs and DVDs . . . a giant Dictionary . . .
Encyclopedias . . . Fairy tales . . .
Good things to read Galore . . .

Holiday books . . . the Internet . . . Joke books . . .
Kind Librarians. . . .
Magazines . . . Newspapers . . .
books about the Ocean . . .
Poetry and Picture books. . .
Quiet corners to Read . . . Storytimes . . .
Travel books about everywhere in the U.S.A.
and places to Visit all over the World.
Xciting isn't it!
You must Zip on over to a library near you
because libraries are everywhere and free!

When you visit your local library, here is a list of things to look for:
1. A board book for your little brother
2. A cookbook or craft book for your Mom
3. A picture book (or 2 or more) for you!
4. A read-along book
(it comes with a CD that tells the story
as you look at the book)
5. And last, but not least, the time
of the next storytime or special activity
Let me know what you find on your next library visit
and perhaps you will be lucky enough to win a fabulous prize.
Happy looking at the library!
