The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn't screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his _ _ _ _ _ was two sizes too small.

Reading H's

You might be happy reading a book about hands or hats . . .
or hearts or houses . . . or even Halloween.
But there arehundreds of other "H" books like:
"Harold and the Purple Crayon" a picture book by Crockett Johnson
"Horton Hatches the Egg" another classic by Dr. Seuss
"Hailstones and Halibut Bones" a book of color poems or
"Hi, Koo!" a book of 26 haikus from A to Z about the seasons. 

There are all kinds of how-to books such as "How to Eat Fried
Worms" by Thomas Rockwell or a series of books about "how to
be a pirate" by Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. Besides Harry
Potter books, you can read other series about the adventures of
Hank the Cowdog or Henry and Mudge.

 
I read a book (that has also become a series) called
"The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kindgom"
by Thomas Healy. You may have read fairy tales with
 nameless Prince Charmings in them. Well, this book
  tells you the real name of those Prince Charmings and
 all about  their bungling and hilarious adventures
in saving the kingdom from a wicked witch.

Halloween Hh

Hh is for Dr. Horrible . . .

. . . and Hh is for haunted house.

Wouldn't you call a house with a skeleton on the door and
several witches, black cats, ghosts and one grumpy old man
  inside haunted?  Of course, it's a house with sweet
stuff inside, too--cookies, snack bags, Grandma, etc. . .
so don't be scared to visit anytime!

Hh Treat-of-the-Day

A hot dog is handy dandy eating in the summertime
(or anytime). You can serve it in a bun . . .
or wrap it in bacon . . . or cut it into nuggets
and poke pretzels into them . . . or wrap it
in dough and make fancy hot dog rockets
to celebrate the upcoming holiday!

People in Europe live in houses with windows and doors,
celings and walls and floors just like yours.
However, their houses look different than yours on the outside.
Which picture is not a place where people live in Europe?

is homes on a hillside in Ireland . . . picture "d" is an apartment
complex in France . . . and picture "c" is  a real telephone
booth in Cornwall (with someone you know inside it)

Hh is for Hearts

February is heart month
The most important heart you have is beating inside your chest and you should take good care of it this month and every month. But we are using the shape of a heart to make or do one little thing each day during this week of a hundred hearts!

Day Seven:
With a heart-shaped cookie cutter
you can create all kinds of sweet treats or . . .

. . . you can guess how many marshmallow hearts
are in this jar and win a sweet treat!

Day Six:
With one purple heart, four lavendar hearts,
one white heart and one tiny pink heart
you can make a bunny rabbit.
(Cut one of the lavendar hearts in half to make the rabbit's ears.)

Day Five:
With one big green heart, three small light green hearts,
a small black circle and a bigger blue circle,
you can create a seal balancing a ball on his nose.

Day Four:
With two pink hearts, one paper covered toilet paper tube,
one pipe cleaner bent in half and curled and some hearts stickers,
you can build a beautiful butterfly!

Day Three:
With three gray hearts and one gray rectangle
you can create an elephant.
Cut one heart in half to make the elephant ears.

Day Two:
With one light blue heart, two dark blue hearts,
one small blue heart and one pink shape
you can make a puppy!

Day One:
With one yellow heart and two orange hearts
you can create a lion.

Hh is for Holly

H is for holly to decorate the door

My theme song so far this month has been "Deck the halls with boughs of holly. Fa La La La Laaa La La La La". It seems like it takes me longer every year to decorate our house for the holidays. Do you think that means I have too many decorations? Or do I waste too much time creating Advent Alphabet Adventures for you?

Happy Hearty "H"

Hello little alpa-buggers! Can you put your hands on your paper plate with an upper-case H on it and the little baggie filled with paper and sticker hearts? Then you will be ready to glue or stick hearts all over your upper-case H."My Heart is Like a Zoo" by Michael Hall is a cute book that shows clever ways to create all kinds of animals out of heart shapes. Maybe you could create some, too, after looking at that book. Not only that, but you can create a heart-shaped snack from a hot dog if you feel like it!

Hh is for Houses

Houses

I live in a house with windows and doors,

Ceilings and walls, and carpeted floors.

But not all houses are built like mine.

Some houses, you know, have a different design.

For instance, the cows on my grandfather's farm

All live in a barn to be safe from harm.

(Of course this isn't a barn and cows don't live here.

Who does live in this house?)

A bird's house is high up on a limb

He lives in a nest just right for him.

(There is a birdhouse in this back yard,

but who lives inside this house?)

Pigs like to wallow in muddy pens,

And out in the woods bears live in dens.

In addition to the boy who makes excellent pig noises, who lives in this house?

Foxes are safe in their hideaway holes

And so are badgers, rabbits and moles.

Who lives in this hideaway house?

But of all these houses, both large and small,

I like the one I live in best of all!

And who lives here?

Your homework assignment today is to play "hide-and-seek" inside your house . . . then run all the way around the outside of your house . . . then draw a picture of your house (and glue the other Hh things) in Chapter Hh of your alpha-book. Maybe you could even write your house numbers down and start learning your address!?
