Ff is for Flag

These four flags are the state flags of four different
states. Can you guess which state they belong to?
Here's a clue:

Once you guess the states, find them on your U.S.A. map
and color each state with at least one of the colors in its flag.
(Another clue: you may have already colored the state which
has a big dipper on its flag!)

If you're feeling patriotic, maybe you would like to create an
American flag in your doodle book with bits of red, white
and blue paper . . . or maybe you would prefer to try the
pom pom flag painting method.

Happy Flag Day after!

Reading F's

Fairy tales are fabulous books to read for the letter "F".
There are also books called "fractured fairy tales" which
are stories that use the fairy tales you know and change the
characters, setting or story a little as in "The True Story
of the Three Little Pigs" as told by Jon Scieszka.

Of course, you can find quite a few books about fish,
flowers, food, friends and frogs . . . plus books with fun
characters like Fancy Nancy, Flat Stanley and Fly Guy.

"Fraidyzoo" by Thyra Heder is a fine book I read this summer.
This picture book is the story of a little sister who remembers
she was frightened of something at the zoo the last time her
family visited it, but cannot remember what it was. So her
creative family helps by imitating every animal from A to Z
until she recalls exactly what caused her fear.

And "Fantastic Mr. Fox" is the story of a clever fox
and his family that your whole family might like to
read together.

Have fun reading!

Ff is for Fingerpainting

Big F . . . little f
F . . . f . . . F
See funny fingerprint paintings of the alphabet

Don't you think hand/finger print art created by my grandchildren
would look fabulous on my craft/play room wall.
If each grandchild made 2 or 3 letter paintings,
you could give them to me for my birthday!

Just wishing . . .

Disneyland Ff

Tinker Bell is a f_ _ _ _ you might find at Disneyland.
If she sprinkled you with pixie dust do you think you could fly?
Or would you rather have a f_ _ _ _ godmother like Cinderella
. . . or better yet, three f_ _ _ _ godmothers like
Princess Aurora?

Merry 18 days before Christmas

I spy with my little eye
an itty bitty bit of Christmas
that starts with the letter F
F _ _

Hint: This is one of my favorite ornaments
hanging on our Christmas tree. If you're
wondering what this forest creature has to do with
Christmas, then you must read this book!

Ff is for Foolishness

April 1st was April Fool's Day

You boys are such very smart grandsons--you not only noticed some funny business on Grandma's Alpha-Blog a few days ago . . . you also knew the right way to spell the new month AND the answer to the silly riddle. I hope you are also smart enough to know that Grandpa will not have any idea what you are talking about if you tell him he owes you a quarter.

Happy April foolishness!

Ff is for February Finals

February has an extra day!Did you know that February 28 is National Tooth Fairy Day? I don't know if you have ever been visisted by her yet, but celebrate all her hard work by brushing AND flossing your teeth today! Did you also know that in most years February only has 28 days, except this year (and every fourth year) February has 29 days. So now you have one extra day to check off a few more February alpha-adventures!

During February did you make some animal art . . . have a "hearty" breakfast (lunch or dinner) . . . create a dog or an elephant out of hearts . . . figure out if the groundhog saw his shadow . . . hug someone . . . hunt for hearts in your house . . . say "I love you" . . . eat some jiggly jello . . . kiss mommy or daddy . . . write a love list . . . mail someone a valentine . . . notice how many marshmallows were in Grandma's glass jar (103--which makes Jack's plus Ryan's guess the closest!) . . . find any presidents' faces on money . . . read the "Queen of Hearts" or any other story about valentines . . .lose a tooth or brush your teeth . . . give away any Xs or Os . . . or take a snoozzzze? Write down a letter for each alphabet adventure you had this month and get ready to leap into a new month!

Happy final days of February!

Ff is for Fireplace

F is for fireplace brightly ablaze

A fun tradition you might try with your family is to read a Christmas story every night at bedtime gathered around the fireplace. I know . . . I know. . . you don't have a fireplace. So maybe you could read by candlelight . . . or by flashlight . . . or by Christmas tree light instead.

If you don't have a fireplace, that means you don't have a chimney. Have you ever wondered how Santa gets into your house on Christmas Eve? You will find the answer in a book called "On Christmas Eve" by Peter Collington.

Merry bedtime reading!

Ff is for Feet

Feet are fabulous things to have even if they look as freaky as these feet of an unnamed person. You can use your feet to run and walk . . . skip and kick . . . jump and stand for hours on end. I'm not sure I can think of something from A to Z to do with feet but here are two possibilities: Footprint ghosts
or
Monster feet
Have fun with your feet!

Fancy Flowered "F"

Do you feel like making more Alpha-Bug today? Then find the paper plate with an upper-case letter F on the front of it; and find a little baggie filled with flowers and the lower-case letter f. Cover the paper plate F with the little flowers. When you're finished, hang it up with the rest of your Alpha-Bug! Have you figured out where my Alpha-Bug is hanging? Now, just for fun, make a fruit flower. Place a kiwi slice (or any roundish fruit) on the center of a plate. Arrange slices of bananas, strawberries, or other fruit around the center to look like a daisy. Make a stem with little blueberries. . . or be super fancy and make flower pot sundaes to feast on while someone reads you a flowery story like "Alison's Zinnia" by Anita Lobel.

Have a fabulously fun day!

Ff is for Fancy Nancy

Please forgive me for telling you about another "girl" book, but how could I resist a book with glitter on the cover and "Splendiferous" in the title. Fancy Nancy is a very girly girl who has a very fancy wardrobe (which is a fancy word for a lot of clothes) . . . and who also has a big vocabulary (which is a fancy word for big words). In "Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas" she is excited for Christmas and like she does in so many other "Fancy Nancy" books, she goes a little overboard with decorations, sprinkles and other fanciness. But it is still hilarious (which is a fancy word for funny), and I think at least your Mommies should read it.

Merry fun (if not fancy) day!

Ff is for Fish

Don't be scared to read this book. It is a silly underwater makeover of the story of the three little pigs . . . only this book has seaweed houses and sandcastles and fish saying "Not by the skin of my finny fin fin".

You could feast on fish sticks for lunch or make this fish snack: Cut celery stalks into sections and spread the center with cream cheese that has been dyed blue with a drop of blue food coloring. Place goldfish crackers in the cream cheese "water"and let the fish "swim" downstream into your tummy!

Have a Ffffabulously fun day!

Ff is for Fun Food

Playing with fake food is a favorite fun thing to do at Grandma's house.
Playing with real food is even more fun!
Try making and tasting one . . . two . . . three. . . four
. . . or all five of these fun foods:

mini caramel apples
eggs in a nest
fruity frog
Happy Friday!
