Find a Christmas O

Sing a primary song that goes like this:

"Once within a lowly stable
where the sheep and the _ _ _ _ lay,
A loving mother laid her baby
In a manger filled with hay.

Mary was the mother there,
And the Christ that baby fair."

Reading O's

Oh boy, there are a lot of books that begin with "Oh":
"Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss
"Oh, Were They Ever Happy" by Peter Spier
and "Oh, What a Busy Day!" by Gyu Fujikawa

"Once upon a time . . ." stories are ever so abundant, too
plus "Once There Were Giants" and
"Once Upon a Golden Apple" books.

Not only that, but you could read a book about my favorite
"O" character: Olivia (who is a spunky pig) or you could
read "Olive the Other Reindeer" --a Christmas story.
You could read about oceans, octopus, owls, or origami
. . . even the "Origami Yoda" series by Tom Angelberger

"Beautiful Oops! is a cute picture book with this moral:
"It's ok to make a mistake. In fact, hooray for mistakes!
A mistake is an adventure in creativity."

I read and loved "The Ordinary Princess" by M.M. Kaye
but maybe you would prefer reading "Over in the Meadow"--
an old counting rhyme book by David A. Carter.
"Outside the Box" is a book of funny poems
by Karma Wilson like this one about oatmeal:
"As mooshy, gooshy, squishy goo?
It's awful stuff to eat.
As crunchy, munchy cookie bliss?
Oatmeal's a wonderful treat.

Of course, the easiest way to earn a letter "O" on your
amazing summer reading racetrack, might just be to read outside!

Oh, what a wonderful day to read!

Merry 20 days before Christmas

I spy with my little eye
an itty bitty bit of Christmas
that starts with the letter O

O _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Hint: Here is one I got as a souvenir from
our fall vacation to hang on our tree

XOXO is for Hugs and Kisses

February is a good time for hugs and kisses

X's and O's are useful for more than playing tic-tac-toe. Did you see XOXO's on any candy or valentine cards you received yesterday. Then you probably already know XOXO means hugs and kisses. Valentine's Day may be over, but I still wanted to send you a hug and a kiss. My hug to you is in the form of one of my favorite photos and this poem by Shel Silverstein: I will not

play at tug o'war
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.
As for the kiss . . . you must read one of my favorite books called "Sloppy Kisses" by Elizabeth Winthrop especially if you think kissing is yukky!

Happy XOXO to you all!

Oo is for Oatmeal

January is oatmeal month

Eating a bowl of oatmeal is a delicious and nutritious way to start the day. I like oatmeal with apple bits, walnuts, and brown sugar. I challenge you to eat some oatmeal this month . . . or if you prefer, ask your Mom to make oatmeal muffins. . . or how about some oatmeal cookies!

Happy oatmeal month!

Oo is for Ornaments

O is for ornaments, shiny and bright

I bought some brand new ornaments for my tree this year. You may have noticed some of them pictured on the blog this month. Can you guess why random letters of the alphabet will be hanging on my tree?

Merry 10 days before Christmas!

Oodles of "O"s

Oh, boy! You can pull out the paper plate with an upper-case O on the front of it now. And you can also pull out the little baggie with a lower-case o inside it along with alot of o-shaped cereal. Fill up your O with oodles of any o-shaped cereal like cheeri-Os or fruit loops. Maybe you can munch on a few cheeri-Os or fruit loops while you read "Oh, Were They Ever Happy!"by Peter Spier. This colorful story may inspire you to create something colorful. (Please don't paint your house) String fruit loops into a necklace or make a fruit loop rainbow instead.

Of course, have oodles of fun today!

Oo is for Owen

Who is one month old today?
Who has one mommy and one daddy?

Who has one big brother?

Who has one puppy for picture-taking?

Who has one real dog?

Who has one head full of dark hair?

Guess who this sweet one is and give him one little kiss

the next time you see him for one little ticket from me!

Oo is for Olivia

Olivia is a spunky, precocious piglet who is very good at many things--like wearing people out. Maybe you have met her before in books at the library or on her own TV show on Nickelodeon. Now there is also a Christmas book starring Olivia called "Olivia Helps with Christmas". She goes overboard in this book helping her family get ready for Christmas while impatiently waiting for Santa to come. Oh, boy . . . I hope you don't wear your parents out like Olivia does.

Merry only one week and five days until Christmas!

Oo is for Oh!

Oh, no! It snowed this morning and I wanted to do a

"summer is coming" post.

Oh, well . . . here it is anyway.

Oh, and by the way, you can read or sing along with the song

on page 245 of the Children's Songbook

Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?

Do you fish in a stream, or lazily dream

on the banks as the clouds go by?

Is that what you do? . . . so do I!

Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?

Do you swim in a pool, to keep yourself cool,

or swing in a tree up high?

Is that what you do? . . . So do I!

Oh, what do you do in the summertime, when all the world is green?

Do you march/watch parades, or drink lemonades,

or count all the stars in the sky?

Is that what you do? . . . So do I!

Actually this is my real summer to do list:

1. Go to Oregon to see the ocean

2. Go to Alaska to see the Land of the Midnight Sun

3. Go to Cedar City to see some plays

4. Eat lots of watermelon, cantaloupe, and ice cream

5. Try to post one picture book title/and or activity idea for each letter of the alphabet

Tell me five things you want to do this summer and obviously, then I will have to give you a fabulous prize!

Oh, what a fun summer I hope we all have!
