Reading K's

How about a "knock, knock" joke for your reading "K" pleasure:
Knock, Knock
Who's there?
Summer
Summer who?
Summer funny jokes and summer not.
Maybe you can find better ""knock, knock" jokes in a
"Knock Your Socks Off" joke book. Or does a "Kids in
the Kitchen"
cookbook sound better. Oh, I know, how
about a book about a kitty . . . either a cute "Hello Kitty"
book or a "Bad Kitty" book for those of you who like
your stories more naughty than nice.

There are Katy books and kindergarten books and books
about kids  from A to Z in "An Annoying ABC" by
Barbara Bottner. There are books about kites
like
"Kite Day" by Will Hillenbrand;  and books
about  kissing like my favorite,
"Sloppy Kisses" by Elizabeth Winthrop.

And there is a book called "Knights of the Kitchen Table"
that I read once upon a time. It is the story of three boys
who find a magic book that helps them travel back to
the time of King Arthur. It is the first book of the
adventures of the Time Warp Trio by Jon Scieszka.

Okay, so here is one more "knock, knock" joke:
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Heaven.
Heaven who?
Heaven you heard enough knock, knock jokes?

Probably . . .

Merry 11 days before Christmas

I spy with my little eye
an itty bitty bit of Christmas
that starts with the letter K
K_ _ _  K_ _ _ _ _ _

Hint: This guy has different names in different countries.
In Germany his name is a variant of the
German word for "Christ Child".
What do we usually call him in our country?

55. Pictures of the day
Kk is for knickers
Which is worse:
This inappropriate photograph Grandpa took of a shop window in England?
Or this slightly naughty picture book Grandma bought as a souvenir of England?

Kk is for Kisses

K is for kisses from you to me

There is a Christmas tradition of kissing under the mistletoe and a holiday song called "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" that has something to do with mistletoe. Another Christmas tradition is to send out cards or letters to family and friends. When they are "sealed with a kiss" that means you sent them your love. However, I doubt you boys care about either of those traditions, so the "kisses" I'm sending to you are the sweetest kind of all. Maybe you can use them to make one of these. . .

Merry "Kiss"mice.

Kk is not for kleenex

Okay, kids . . . you call Kleenex tissues and I call tissues Kleenex. It's quite a conundrum (which also does not begin with the letter "Kk") . . . so let's forget all that and say:

Kk is for kindergarten!

I have never been a kindergarten student, but as the mother of five former kindergarten students and the grandmother of two current kindergarten students, I know that kids get pretty excited about going to kindergarten. Once upon a time I knew a girl who was so excited to go to kindergarten that she started asking about it when she was only two or three years old. I tried to tell her that she had to wait until she was five years old, but that seemed too far away. So I decided to make her a little backpack and give her a toy lunchbox for her 4th birthday. Unfortunately since her birthday was right around the first day of a new school year she thought that meant she could go to school that year. Afterall, she knew the way she told me. I was so afraid that she might try "running away" to school with her two big sisters that I told her that she got to stay home and have kindergarten with me!

Thus, I became a "kindergarten" teacher and every morning for one school year my student and I read books, sang songs, and created craft projects around themes like animals, colors, counting, the alphabet, etc. . . Apparently I was such a good kindergarten teacher that my little student grew up to become a real kindergarten teacher! Can you guess which one of your aunts/mommies my student was? While you're thinking about it, here are a couple kindergarten books you might like to check out: "The Twelve Days of Kindergarten"

by Deborah Lee Rose

a counting story sort of like the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas"

"Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten"

by Joseph Slate

about a kindergarten teacher who has 26 students . . . one for each letter of the alphabet!

Happy Kindergarten Days!

Krazy kissed "K"

Would you be so kind as to find your paper plate with an upper-case K on the front of it and the little baggie with a lower-case k in it. You may think this is crazy, but I put lipstick on and filled my K with kisses. Just in case you don't want to do that, I gave you candy kisses to glue onto your K. However, maybe you could talk your kind and loving mother into kissing your K, then you could both eat the candy kisses! After you add the letter K to your Alpha-bug, you can read all about what kids are like . . . what kids do . . . what's in a kid's pocket . . . everything you ever wanted to know about kids like you in the book, "Kids" by Catherine and Laurence Anholt. And you can make Rice Krispie treats for a snack. If you want to get crazy, you can cut them into skinny rectangles, insert a stick and make Rice Krispie popsicles!

Have a kinda krazy krispie day!

Kk is for Kids

Once upon a time your Moms and Uncle Tom were kids
who were almost as spoiled at Christmas as you are.
Once upon a time Santa Claus was a kid, too!
You can learn how he grew up to become Santa
in the book "I'm Santa Claus And I'm Famous"

Kk is for Kids in the Kitchen

Recently there were some kids in my kitchen . . .

. . . looking for something to nibble on . . . . . . while their cousins and . . . . . . big brothers were . . . . . . frosting and decorating . . . . . . and eating their names!
Here are some treats you might like to create in your own kitchen:

Fruit Smiles
Cupcake Garden
Heart-shaped Pretzels
Ice Cream Cookie Cups
Kabobers and Shake-a-Pudding Dip

Happy kitchen kapers!
