Hh Treat-of-the-Day

A hot dog is handy dandy eating in the summertime
(or anytime). You can serve it in a bun . . .
or wrap it in bacon . . . or cut it into nuggets
and poke pretzels into them . . . or wrap it
in dough and make fancy hot dog rockets
to celebrate the upcoming holiday!

Gg Word-of-the-Day

Now that you don't have to go to school everyday,
where do you like to go instead?
There's lots of places to go in the summertime . . .
you can go to the park or you can go to the
pool or you can go on a picnic or you can go
to the library and look for good books to read on the "go"!

Richard Scarry's
"Cars and Trucks and Things That Go"

"Go, Dog. Go!"
an easy reading book by P.D. Eastman

"Let's Go for a Drive!"
another easy reading and very silly book by Mo Willems

Add an extra  "scoop" to your ice cream cone for
reading a book the next time you're going somewhere!

Ee Word-of-the-Day

The lovely planet we live on is called earth.
Learn about taking care of the earth in books like:

"Arthur Turns Green"
by Marc Brown

"Big Earth, Little Me"
by Thom Wiley

or the "Earth Day Alphaet Book"
by Gary Kowalski

Why not enjoy the earth today and read outside!
Where on earth would you like to read?

How about "In the Tall, Tall Grass" . . .

or "Over in the Meadow"

Wherever you read, you may add one extra reading
ice cream "scoop" if you read somewhere outside!

Dd Treat-of-the-Day

Don't  eat dirt!
But do eat delicious dirt cups you can make yourself . . .

You will need:
1 small package (3.9 oz.) Jell-O chocolate instant pudding
2 cups cold milk
1 tub (8 oz.) whipped topping, thawed
15 Oreo cookies, finely crushed (about 1 1/4 cup)
10 gummy worms

Beat the pudding mix and milk in a large bowl with a whisk.
Let stand about five minutes, then stir in whipped topping
and half of the crushed cookie crumbs. Spoon into ten paper
or plastic cups; top with remaining cookie crumbs.
Refrigerate one hour. Top with gummy worms
just before diving into these delectable dirt cups!

Happy yummy summer!

Bb Treat-of-the-Day

A banana is yummy to eat sliced on cereal . . .
sliced on a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich . . .
or cooked into banana nut bread . . .

Read this recipe to make yourself another tasty banana treat!

Peel three bananas and cut in half (or quarters) crosswise.
Insert a popsicle or lollipop stick into the cut end of each banana.
Place on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper
and freeze for a couple hours.

In a 2-cup glass measuring cup, melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips and
2 tablespoons shortening, stirring halfway through. Stir until smooth.
Dip bananas into chocolate using a spoon to completely coat them.
If you like,  immediately sprinkle each banana with sprinkles,
granola, chopped nuts, coconut, M&Ms or a a favorite kind of cereal
(such as rice krispies, cheerios or fruit loops).

Freeze bananas on baking sheet another 15-20 minutes
until chocolate is set. Enjoy then or wrap to serve later.

Aa Word-of-the-Day

Make a masterpiece today with colored pencils,
crayons, stickers, paint or play dough.
For inspiration read an art book like"

"Art & Max" by David Wiesner

"The Art Lesson" by Tomie de Paola

or "A Day with No Crayons" by Elizabeth Rusch
or "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds

That should be good for one "bonus" scoop
don't you think?
