Bb is for Black

Black is a kind of spooky color you see a lot in October.
But lots of ordinary things are black, too.

Black All Around
by Patricia Hubbell

Look high, look low, look everywhere
The wonderful color black is there
The letters that live on each page of a book,
The hole in the ground that's a ittle mole's nook.
The headlines in the daily news.
Patent leather party shoes.
Clarinets and piano keys.
The fuzzy stripes on bumblebees.

Can you find as many black things as I did?
Happy Black Day!

It's Autumntime!
Day Seven

Once upon a time (2005) Grandpa and I took
our almost only grandson to a pumpkin patch
and he picked out a pumpkin almost as big as he was.

Visit a pumpkin patch sometime this fall to pick out a pumpkin.
Put it on your porch until it's time to turn it into a jack-o-lantern.

And before or after that, read the cutest book
"Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin"by Tad Hills

Happy pumpkin hunting!

It's Autumntime!Day Six

Look for leaves to crunch as you walk through them . . .
to rake into a pile to jump into . . . to sort and count . . .
or to use to create "leaf people"

Or create your own fall leafy tree with Q-tips and
yellow, orange, red and brown paint.

Aa is for Apple

It's Autumntime!
Day Five

September 26 is
Johnny Appleseed's birthday
John Chapman, better known as the legendary Johnny Appleseed,
traveled all over the Ohio River Valley planting appleseeds.
He was also the first frontier librarian, ripping apart copies
of books and rotating the chapters among the settlers--kind of a
one-man-one-book walking bookmobile.

Celebrate this autumn day by sitting under a tree to read a book
or eat an apple . . . or you could make apple prints  in
Chapter Aa of your Alpha-Book.
